“Instructional Unit Final Project”

This project was completed for English 507 Methods/Issues in Teaching Composition during the Spring 2022 semester. For the final project, I created a detailed lesson plan for a hypothetical college-level English writing class. The assignment entailed creating a detailed syllabus and lesson plan for an entire month’s work of lessons.

This was my first education class, and after completing the assignment, I had a better idea of the expectations placed on college educators. I’m not sure right now if I want to go into teaching, nor if I want to teach college students, but this class gave me insight into what I could expect if I choose the road of education, specifically higher education but also English and Language Arts teaching in general.

The only thing I would change from this paper is the introduction. I was clearly confused between writing for class, where the sole audience member was my teacher, and actually writing with a target audience (obviously my hypothetical students) in mind.

The paper was a great exercise for me to utilize the ideas on running a class, something I had started to compartmentalize over the years across dozens of college courses. Although I already had a strong respect for teachers, this experience has led me to even greater admiration for the profession and has helped to prepare me for a possible future in education.
